Intensely fruity and spirited Sancerre from the 'terres blanches' of the Loire
A classic Sancerre with ripe gooseberry fruit and zesty acidity. The style is full and round yet fresh and well-balanced.
Domaine du Pre Semelé is located in Maimbray, a small hamlet between Sury and Verdigny to the north of the village of Sancerre in the beautiful Loire region of France. Brothers Julien & Clément now run the domaine they have inherited from their father, Rémy. Geographically and climatically, Sancerre has a distinctly continental climate with long, hot summers and severe winters, therefore hail and frost are common problems. The region is famous for making fine, dry wines.
Julien and Clément manage 14 hectares of vines across 45 different parcels, two thirds of Sauvignon Blanc and one third of Pinot Noir. Soil type is primarily the classic terres blanches clay-chalk, a heavier soil which gives the wines a ripe fruit character.
Very modern well-equipped stainless steel cellar allows them to temperature-control all their vinifications and later storage in tank prior to bottling.
Fish, shellfish of course, white meats, salads and most vegetarian dishes.
