Make no mistake, we are in world-class territory. Robert Parker has compared the sweet wines of Tirecul to the most notable sweet wines anywhere in the world.
This rich and intense dessert wine is bursting with floral, candied fruit aromas, orange peel marmalade, and exotic spicy notes. The crisp acidity keeps everything fresh on the tongue. Soft, elegant and concentrated it's got a lovely long finish that's simply pure pleasure. A glorious wine, unctuously rich and intense.
Monbazillac sits just to the south of Bergerac and is the Dordogne's answer to Sauternes. The climate in certain specific locations here is just right for inducing Noble Rot, the critical element needed for making sweet wines in this part of the world. Château Tirecul la Gravière, being fortunate enough to have vineyards suitably susceptible to this benevolent condition, is generally acknowledged as the best producer in the region. They've been lauded by no less a wine critic then the renowned Robert Parker as 'producing sweet wines comparable to the most notable in the world'. Their wines are certainly ones to take seriously.
The remarkable concentration in this wine is attributed to older vines, though the exact reason remains a mystery. Made from perfectly botrytised grapes which are picked and fermented together before being aged in barrel for between 12-36 months. The fruit comes from vines that deliver an exceptional level of sweetness at 175g/l residual sugar. No sugar is added, the result is entirely natural.
Blue cheeses and sweet puddings. Being among the sweetest of sweet wines this will easily match up to the stickiest of them!
