Uncomplicated and easy going Portuguese red.
Ripe and juicy, with a great mix of warming, dark plummy fruit, crunchy red berries, and a little lift of floral violets. There's earthy, almost clay-like minerality, and just grippy fine tannin on the palate. The finish is kept fresh with good acidity, making it uncomplicated and easy-going.
This is a family run winery, in the heart of Redondo, with a deep love and understanding of the viticultural heritage of their region. Alexandre Relvas started in 1997, and his two sons Alexandre Jr and António now run the show, ably supported by Head Winemaker Nuno Franco and his team at the Pimenta Winery.
The wines are bold in expression, varied in style and authenticity shines through them all.
The family develop their enterprise locally and globally, committing to ambitious environmentally sustainable and socially responsible policies so the benefits are shared, and added value is retained.
The Redondo wine is the first DOC release from Casa Relvas. It represents who they are; their history, their region, and their culture. In the blend, winemaking, and resultant style, it uses a philosophy of modernisation with historic perspective.
It's made as a wild, co-fermentation with a small proportion of whole bunches, and then ageing in a 5000L foudre for 12 months.
Full flavoured and roasted red meats, game and pork.
