Classic Californian Chardonnay from the pioneers of the region
Classic opulent Californian Chardonnay from pioneers of the region. The nose is packed with fruit, creamy citrus and tropical notes. The palate is both lush and concentrated with great balance and rich nutty flavours. Textural, silky and fresh acidity. This is a versatile and stylish white.
Nielson Wines pays homage to its namesake, Uriel J. Nielson, who in 1964 planted the first commercial vineyard in Santa Barbara County, a region previously considered too cold to grow grapes. Known as a viticulture pioneer, Uriel didn't heed warnings from neighbouring farmers and didn't flinch in his stance that Santa Barbara County could be one among the top winegrowing regions in the world. The Nielson Vineyard, nestled 18 miles west of the Pacific Ocean, is one of the first vineyard sites in the valley to witness the fog burn off each morning. This early morning sun appearance results in muscular Pinot Noirs with dark fruit & floral notes as well as balanced Chardonnays with renowned mineral, citrus, and orange blossom notes.
This wine comes from two growing regions within Santa Barbara County, both of which are influenced by unique soil types and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Santa Maria Valley is one of California's coolest AVAs with well-drained soils and one of the longest growing seasons in the world. When picked at earlier stages of ripeness, Chardonnay from the Santa Maria Valley shows more citrus notes, and as the fruit ripens on the vine, it becomes increasingly tropical in expression. Just south of Santa Maria Valley and Los Alamos, the Sta. Rita Hills AVA is characterized by steep vineyard slopes, a distinct saline minerality, bright citrus notes, and the signature Santa Barbara County ocean influence.
The wine is aged for 6 months in French oak barrels, stainless steel, and concrete egg
Great with herby roasted chicken, rich fish and pasta dishes.
