Aromatically elegant with fantastic concentration of fruit
Pronounced on the nose with plum, coffee and dark chocolate notes. The palate is precise and balanced, with an elegant structure that reflects the identity of the grape in its origin.
Forty nice years ago, Esporão was born from the desire to make the finest wines in the Alentejo region from what nature provides. What seemed like the dream of two friends, has become a project with international and generational perspectives. The motivation behind this family business remains the basis of everything they do, expanded today to new territories and products
Grapes come from a 42 year old vineyard planted on sandy loam soil with granite bedrock. The spring was cooler and wetter than 2015 with the lower temperatures leading to a longer period of vegetative growth, and despite the hotter weather from July onwards, the harvest began 10 days later than usual. The warmer conditions continued throughout the vintage, grape quality was excellent, and despite the heat, sugar levels remained normal, with slightly lower acidity.
Fermented in foot-trodden marble lagares, then transferred to concrete tanks where the juice finishes the fermentation under controlled temperatures. The resulting wine is matured for one year in French oak barrels, followed by two years in bottle.
Fantastic with grilled and roasted red meats.
